Scholarships 

Scholarships  
The Social Services of Minho University (SASUM) provides grants that are a direct social to support economically disadvantaged students whose household cannot support by itself the costs inherent to frequency of superior studies .The grants are co-financed by European Social Fund and the Portuguese State under POPH.

 


The grants are regulated by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education that defines the amounts and conditions in which students can  submit application.
The rules for the allocation of grants in force Order no. 8442-A/2012 of June 22th, as amended last by Order 7031-B/2015, of 24 June, are available for viewing on this website (http://www.sas.uminho.pt - Regulamento de Atribuição de Bolsas). Applications are made on the dates regulated.

Article 5 establishes the conditions for assignment of this direct social support.

Regarding the nationality, candidates shall comply with those set out in point (a)) of article referred.

Still regarding the condition of nationality, in case you do not have Portuguese nationality or from other country of the European Union, to receive a scholarship you must comply one of the following conditions:
- Must hold permanent residence in Portuguese territory;
- Beneficiary of the status of long term resident in the national territory;
- Be a citizen of a State with which there was concluded a cooperation agreement providing for the application of such benefits;
- Be a citizen of a State whose law, on equal terms, grants equal treatment to Portuguese students;
-  Stateless;
- Beneficiary of the political refugee status.

In case of doubt students who wish to apply for the grant should consult the Guidelines available on personal application to the grant of the candidate, or consult the Internet site of SASUM in http://www.sas.uminho.pt or of DGES in http://www.dges.mctes.pt/DGES/pt and frequently asked questions.

However, students enrolled as International Students, are not entitled to a Scholarship, and can only benefit from indirect social action as stipulated in Article 10 of Decree-Law no. 36/2014, of 10 March, like lodging:

Financial Aid Applications
You should apply for aid every year. There are many factors affecting eligibility for financial aid, for example, a student who didn’t qualify one year might become eligible during the next year.
